Belthangady Varado ICYM Unit held a Legal awareness training programme at the Varado level on 24th July 2011 at 11.00am at Belthangady Church Hall. The inauguration programme was presided over by Very Rev. Fr. James D’ Souza, the Vicar Vara of the Belthangady Varado; the inauguration was done by Mr. Vincent D’ Souza, the former President of ICYM, the Diocese of Mangalore, The Varado Director of Belthangady ICYM unit Rev. Fr. Simon D’ Souza, the president of Belthangady Varado Unit Mr. Derrel Kiran Pereira, Mr. Benedict Pinto, Varado Treasurer shared the dais for the inauguration programme. The training programme was conducted by Rev. Fr. Francis Assisi D’ Almeida, the Director of the Diocesan legal Cell and Mr. Praveen Pinto, an advocate from Mangalore assisted for the training.
   

 

 


The introductory speech was delivered by Rev. Fr. Simon D’ Souza, the Varado Director of the ICYM Unit and the president of the programme, V. Rev. Fr. James D’ Souza  addressed the gathering and expressed the need of the hour to know our basic rights and to know the procedure to get ourselves protected from un-necessary problems through legal complications. Mr. Vincent D’ Souza, the inaugurator addressed the youngsters and gave a call to unite among themselves to protect our interests and to work for the betterment of the society.
   
During the training Fr. Francis Assisi D’ Almeida the Director of the Diocesan legal cell spoke about rights of the person while one is arrested and the duties of the police towards and arrested person. He also spoke about the rights of a complainant and procedure and advantages of a private complaint before the Judicial Magistrate. The methodology of writing an FIR (First Information Report) was also explained during the session.
Mr. Praveen Pinto spoke on consumer rights and procedure to file a complaint before the Consumer redressel forum along with certain practical examples.

The programme was attended by 82 youths from various parishes of the Varado. (From Nainad Parish- 15 youth, Badyar Parish- 12, Indebettu Parish- 8, Belthangady Parish- 10, Madanthyar Parish-10, Ujire Parish- 9, Arva Parish-3, Venur Parish- 15)
